Toying with Getting Things Done

A few weeks ago I bought a copy of Getting Things Done for a friend. In general this is something people do with books they’ve taken the time actually to read first, but I knew enough about the content to make the elevator pitch convincing. This isn’t the first time I’ve encouraged someone to try […]

New song and new demos

This week I finished a new song. Two very rough (think Colorado River in violent spring) demos of the song are available, one with piano and one with guitar. The piano one is slightly less apocalyptically cacophonous than the guitar one.
I’ve also posted new demos of three of my earlier songs:

“I Believe”
“Meditation (Psalm 19)”—a new […]

Digital sermons

Our church is officially cutting-edge: we are podcasting. If that buzzword leaves you nonplussed—or even if it doesn’t—download Apple’s free iTunes software and fire it up. Then click on and search for “Christ the King.” A new sermon is posted every week, and it will be automatically downloaded for you to listen to at […]

Thought-provoking new weblog

Several friends of Casa Jonsson have begun contributing to a new weblog, called Common Grounds Online. The site is an outgrowth of a book on the topic of what C. S. Lewis called “the great conversation.” Linc Ashby and Pat Roach are ministers at our church. Jenny Staff Johnson, together with her husband, Mark, runs Strange […]

Typical of me.

Make way for ducklings

Life imitates art.

Noir guys

The current issue of Hard Luck Stories features the work of two friends of Casa Jonsson. J. Mark Bertrand’s “The Inside Job” dissects the sclerotic heart of an ex-con who gets recruited for an easy bank heist.

He’s an animal, man!

Our friend Nathan will be playing the title role in an upcoming production of Bernard Pomerance’s Tony award-winning play, The Elephant Man. I’m really pumped about this. I’ll be at the March 20 matinée; if you’re going then, too, let me know.
Update: We ended up both going Friday night, and it was every bit as […]

My annoying hang-up

I’m a fairly polite person with average social skills for a (self-diagnosed) borderline Asperger’s sufferer. But I have this irritating premature “goodbye” habit. If you and I have ever spoken by phone then the following exchange will sound familiar.

My life no longer has meaning

How will I go on? Dave Barry has thrown in the towel and will not be writing his Miami Herald column anymore.
