Shameless self-promotion

West University Methodist Church has invited me to perform in the last of six concerts that they organized this year to celebrate the renovation of their sanctuary and the installation of a new pipe organ. It is a wonderful concert space, and the instrument is amazing.
Prominent Houston organist Robert Bennett and I will play well-known […]

New song and new demos

This week I finished a new song. Two very rough (think Colorado River in violent spring) demos of the song are available, one with piano and one with guitar. The piano one is slightly less apocalyptically cacophonous than the guitar one.
I’ve also posted new demos of three of my earlier songs:

“I Believe”
“Meditation (Psalm 19)”—a new […]

Haiku Day … yesterday

I missed Haiku Day.
5/07/05 is past.
Typical of me.

Tipping the scales … and seeing what falls out

By nature I tend toward impulsiveness. In an effort to compensate for this character flaw trait I try to take decisions of consequence somewhat seriously. I no longer remember where the techniques described in this article came from, but my process involves four activities:

New song, a long time coming

I’ve posted a new song to my music page. This one was a slow cooker; I began writing it almost a decade ago and finished it just last week.

New old recordings

I’ve added three items to my music page. There are now performances from years past of works by Albinoni, J. S. Bach and Debussy. Enjoy!

A jingle fit for a King

We have a good friend—I won’t “out” her here—who’s writing a romance novel just because she can. Having the published work on their coffee table will certainly be a conversation starter. (She’s already had some explaining to do when friends and family saw examples of the genre lying around their house half-read.) I have to […]

New Code Project article on argument exceptions

If you compose in the key of C#, you may want to check out my new article at The Code Project.
Achieve greater consistency in raising argument exceptions with very little effort. This utility class (which is covered by nearly 600 included NUnit test cases!) makes it possible to evaluate and raise exceptions on passed-in parameters, […]

Photoshop Album and external hard drives

I manage Casa Jonsson’s digital photos using a great little software product called Photoshop Album. It’s a good thing, but I do have one major gripe about the program: the way it deals with pictures stored on volumes that may not be connected to the computer all the time, such as external hard disks. If […]

Halloween at Bridgeway

On Friday my team at work gave the go-ahead to release version 7.1 of our product suite. This was my first release since joining the company, and it’s nice to have it behind me. Halloween festivites coincided with this milestone, so my team decided to dress up as 1960s rock stars. Check out the pictures […]
