Working for the government
I just got a jury summons. Like most people, I’ve never actually served on a jury. But I’m considering a career change to jury duty because the compensation is skyrocketing. Last time I got a summons it was from Harris County and they were going to pay me six bucks a day. Fort Bend County is now offering me thirty. Since I like my current job well enough, maybe what I should do instead is ask my employer to give me a 400% raise in order to keep pace with the growth in wages that I command as a loyal citizen.
The only problem is, I don’t think I qualify as a juror. One of the General Qualifications for Jury Service is that I must be “of sound mind and good moral character.” How can a Calvinist claim to be both at once?
Where p is “I am of sound mind” and q is “I am of good moral character,” the truth table applicable to this scenario is as follows:
| p | q | ¬(p ∧ q) |
|---|---|---|
| T | T | F |
| T | F | T |
| F | T | T |
| F | F | T |
Wow!! I would love to be on a jury … well for a few days to do my duty. :)
