Death by congregational singing
Our church is putting on a “Greatest Hits Night”—an evening of live music that was heard in our worship services during the year. It’s a time of fellowship, food, fun, and worship for the church. It’s also an opportunity for members to invite friends and family from outside the church who might find an evening of musical entertainment more appealing than a Sunday-morning worship service.
You might call this a non-threatening outreach event. The only problem is that people might feel a little threatened by a description such as I just read in the church bulletin.
Join us Saturday, February 11 @ 6:00 p.m. at HCC for a potluck dinner including an evening of music, congregational singing and and reprisals of some of our favorite vocal solos and ensembles from our worship services.
Match your dish with your last name:
A–J Main Dish K–O Dessert P–Z Salad or Vegetable Serving size: 8–10 people
Remember serving spoons!
I shudder to think what kind of Sopranosesque “hits” will be committed with the serving spoons!
Reminds me of the old bulletin gaffe: At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be “What is Hell?” Come early and listen to our choir practice.
Greatest Hits Night?
Sounds like an offer I can’t refuse.
Yikes! I guess I should pay more attention to the church bulletins.
Also, since our last names starts with a “P”, we’ll have to look for a very large vegetable that can serve 8–10 people (and can be served up with a spoon).
