Thought-provoking new weblog
Several friends of Casa Jonsson have begun contributing to a new weblog, called Common Grounds Online. The site is an outgrowth of a book on the topic of what C. S. Lewis called “the great conversation.” Linc Ashby and Pat Roach are ministers at our church. Jenny Staff Johnson, together with her husband, Mark, runs Strange Land Books.
Give these entries a read:
- “Serving the Culture Sunday AND Monday”
- “In the City, For the City”
- “All We Have Is Ours to Share”
- “The Exact Places”
There’s a lot more where this came from.
Nils,
I’ve enjoyed your comments re: Linc’s piece at CGO. If Araceli is who I think she is, I met her on a mission trip in 1992. She and Tyler Reitmeier and others from Rice made quite a team. Perhaps it’s a different Araceli, though.
If it is the same, you will be intersted to know that in Common Grounds (the book) I named one of the oil firms that investment banker Brad deals with “Aracell Oil & Gas.” It’s actually page 1.
Why? I was racking my brains one day to think of names for the final edits for the publisher. But all the “normal” names that came to mind sounded banal, but then Araceli’s name popped to mind (Perhaps I had read a Hewlett post that day, I don’t know.) Voila, a name for one of the fictional oil companies.
Thought you’d get a kick out of that. Perhaps you’ll find the rest of the book as interesting as page 1. Or not. :)
Please say hi to Pat and Linc for me, and Jenny & Mark.
GL
Good to hear from you, Glenn. Araceli will find it very amusing indeed that her name graces page one of your book. I was reading reviews of it at Amazon.com the other day and it sounds like you guys have done some good work.
Your name came up recently around Casa Jonsson (bricks-and-mortar, not dot-com), too. Appropriately, a few days later you linked to “Anakin Dynamite.” I decided that your full name is fun to say while imitating Napoleon Dynamite: “Glenn: lucky!”
Carry on.
