Analyze your American English dialect
What’s surprising about this is that it’s not a bad guess at where I’ve spent the years of my life: 50% Northern Ohio, 45% urban Southeast Texas, 3% coastal Northern California, 2% New Hampshire.
| 75% | General American English |
| 15% | Yankee |

How about you? (Via Richard Tallent.)
I’ve similar provenance on my dialect: 50% rural central Ohio, 47% urban southeast Texas, 3% urban upper midwest.
I come out like this:

Upper Midwestern
I might give credit the extra Dixie in my voice to my father being an old-school Kentucky Gentleman. Interesting that I didn’t pick up any Upper Midwestern while living in the Twin Cities, but urban areas always moderate dialect anyway. I’m a little concerned that I still have 10% Yankee in me. Better get to work on that!
All right, I was concerned that I had 10% yankee, too. Must be from those years I lived in Hawaii…. I did find the “what age are you” test fun. How do you rate on that one? I’m guessing that I scored younger than I am because I have teenagers and much prefer the “White Stripes” to the Rolling Stones.
This is accurate, but it’s not as remarkable as what my favorite TV show was in high school.
