The battle of the bulge
Everybody’s speculating about what it was that President Bush had under his suit jacket during the debates with John Kerry. Since it’s also visible under his T-shirt at the ranch, I’d wager it’s an insulin pump.
Dubya shouldn’t be trying to hide it, though. Diabetes is chic. I think wearing a MiniMed as a Texas-sized belt buckle could be a campaign advantage for him. He also might fare better with voters if his moral objections to embryonic stem cell production could be seen to be nobly prevailing over a personal health interest.
Of course, Kerry could always opt to “out” Bush as a diabetic on national TV. Then Elizabeth Edwards could accuse the Bush camp of being ashamed of the disease.
Given his abysmal performance in the second half of the first debate, I can hardly believe that someone was helping him. If so, he needs to get new help.
