Recharging after first week

Bridgeway SoftwareI started a new job last Monday. I hit the ground not so much running as trying to keep from skinning my nose on the pavement. The products I’m working on at my new gig are unfamiliar territory from both a technological and a business perspective. The web application server is Java-flavored and runs Apache Tomcat, and the Windows middle-tier and front end are Delphi. (My eventual focus is likely to be a revision of the Windows client in .NET, which is where I feel at home, but I am having fun figuring out everything else.) The business of corporate law is largely unknown to me, so learning what Bridgeway’s software products do and who they do them for is just as much of a challenge for me to understand as the technical how.

We’re spending a much-needed long weekend grilling, swilling, and chilling with friends outside Austin on Lake Travis (see above). We worshipped this morning at All Saints Presbyterian Church, a very recent PCA church plant in Austin. It’s been a terrifically refreshing time thus far. end of entry
