Reeling

with Keith just before his surgery

A friend of ours just came out of brain surgery. He looked great in the waiting room this morning at 5:30 (see above). We prayed for him and listened to him pray for God to protect him and his family during his recovery. But the tumor they discovered a few weeks ago proved today to be malignant, and the surgeons were unable to remove all of it. This is not the news we were hoping to hear.

Is it just me, or is cancer everywhere you look these days? We now have six friends and two relatives who are battling the disease, and two other friends who have had recent operations to treat melanoma. Excluding my uncle and Araceli’s aunt, all these people are under fifty years old. Five out of eight are in their thirties.

For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. (Ro 8:22f.end of entry
